Poetic Form: The Diorion
This poem is written in a form I conceived and created called the Diorion (pronounced “dee-or'-ee-on) in December 2005. The form is named after my husband's surname of Diorio. The Diorion originated in Millville, New Jersey, and consists of 7 lines of 7syllables each with a rhyme scheme of ababccc.
Majestic Mercy
He sits atop Mount Zion,
All-seeing and all-knowing.
He rules valiant Orion,
And sets the rivers flowing.
His endless love paternal
Removes all sin infernal.
Haikus
I.
Monarch butterfly
Flutters gaily to and fro,
Lights on marigold.
II.
Monarch butterfly
Flits across the meadow lush,
Jewel in nature’s crown.
III.
Lonely nightingale
Sings nocturnal melody
In a moonlit tree.
IV.
Weeping willow tree,
Branches bearing tired leaves
Bending toward the earth.
V.
Weeping willow tree
Bending heavy branches low.
Old man bent with age.
VI.
Wooden window box
Celebrates geraniums
Bending in the breeze.
VII.
Fragile dandelion,
Kissed by breath of human lips,
Floats in summer wind.
